One of my favorite things about this time of year is trying various flavors of hot cocoa! I used to try the different flavors at the gas station, but not only was that more expensive, it also requires buckling my kids into their car seats for yet another errand.
I have since wisened up and learned the wonderful art of MAKING MY OWN HOMEMADE HOT CHOCOLATE. And let me just tell you, it tastes very, very wonderful. And is so stinking easy.
Today I’m giving you a delicious pumpkin spice hot chocolate recipe, which is delightful and perfect for the fall season. If you haven’t tried our other hot cocoa recipes, you better do that next!
Homemade Pumpkin Spice Hot Cocoa
There are a few different ways you can make this recipe, and so I’m going to give them both to you in case you want the more simple option.
Here’s a 2nd option:
(If you are using the homemade hot cocoa recipe that I linked to above instead of a store-bought one, increase hot cocoa amount to 1 and 2/3 cup hot cocoa and use water instead of milk).
- 5 Cups Milk
- ¾ Cup Hot Cocoa Mix
- ½ Cup Canned Pumpkin
- 1-2 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice (according to taste)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Whipped Topping and marshmallows
- In a medium saucepan over Medium-low heat, warm up your hot cocoa and milk. Add your pumpkin and pumpkin pie spice and heat to your desired temperature (just don't let it boil).
- Remove from heat and add your vanilla. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream and marshmallows, or desired toppings.
