Tips & Tricks for Conception

Sharing is caring!

Fertility is such a sensitive subject and my heart truly goes out to those who are struggling with a strong desire to get pregnant and haven’t been able to do so. First, in telling my story I am not pretending to know what everyone else is going through. I realize that my year and a half of trying could be nothing to someone else’s 8 years of trying. However, I feel like there are a few things that I need to share just in case someone finds themselves in a situation similar to mine.

My husband and I had been trying for almost a year and a half and thought maybe we should start looking into some fertility treatments. My sister-in-law was in a very similar situation–feeling hopeless and started to see a doctor about some possible fertility treatments. During on of our chats, she casually mentioned a friend of hers that had been trying for a long time and finally got pregnant her very first time using an ovulation prediction kit. My sister-in-law mentioned she was going to try the same thing as a “last-ditch” effort before trying fertility treatments. I thought, “why not? I’ll give it a go!

Long story short, we both ended up pregnant the next cycle and our babies will be just a few weeks apart.

Here are some Simple Tips & Tricks That other Have Found to Be Successful for Getting Pregnant:

Tips for getting pregnant before you go down the fertility route

Know When You are Fertile and use an ovulation predicting kit! This is huge. You only drop one egg, and that egg has a day or two to be fertilized, so if you miss the window, you miss the window. I feel like it’s pretty obvious when I am ovulating, and have always just tracked by physical symptoms. Apparently I wasn’t tracking well enough, because the very FIRST time I used an ovulation tracking kit, we had success and were pregnant. After almost a year and a half of trying. Same story with my sister-in-law, as well as the friend that gave her the suggestion.

Make sure you are using a fertility-friendly lubricant. A couple months before we conceived, I came upon this product accidentally and started reading the reviews of all these women that got pregnant on the first time after trying for so long. Keep in mind, this isn’t a miracle product, it won’t make you pregnant if there is an underlying issue, but it’s definitely worth $20 if you are having a hard time conceiving. Unlike many other lubricants, it provides moisture without harming sperm and mimics natural body fluids to relieve dryness and give sperm a slippery surface to swim on 🙂

Do “the DEED” regularly. This doesn’t mean you are scheduling out your love life, but Sperm is better quality if you are somewhat regular and consistent in how often you have sex. It can also get diluted by doing it many times in a row, so a good rule of thumb is about 3 times a week. Don’t just have sex the week you are ovulating. Be consistent.

Position and SoftCups. Missionary position has been said to be the best for conception, but also putting a pillow underneath yourself afterwards to help with gravity. Many have even mentioned having success using softcups afterwards to help keep the sperm right there next to the cervix for a longer period of time.

Relieve Stress. Some have found that simply de-stressing was what the body needed in order to get pregnant. If you have high stress in your life, or if getting pregnant is causing anxiety, take time to relax. Try exercise, yoga, or listening to calming music. Diffuse essential oils throughout the day or while you are sleeping.

Give up Drinking/Smoking if you haven’t already.

Have a healthy BMI. Being underweight can be just as harmful to fertility as being overweight, so try to eat healthy, exercise and maintain a healthy BMI.

TCOYF. Make sure to read the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. If you haven’t read it yet, this is a great place to start! This book has helped hundreds of thousands of women achieve pregnancy, avoid pregnancy naturally, and gain better control of their health and lives.

That’s it for now, but LISTEN…don’t let the task of “baby making” take away all the fun! Check out this post on turning your bed sheet into a game board 🙂
